Using Skype with a "Skype Out" credit account works really well. SMS from your computer, with replies made to your cell phone. Text messages sent via Skype out are generally cheaper that what you would pay with a pre-paid phone account. I use the no-fee version and all my sms text messages accrue on their site and I can easily access them with my phone turned off, as it is about 85% of the time. I'll keep looking though.
