Good point although if you have a dvd with a system on it...

Any of the disk utility dvds or similar will probably do it.

Yes, the script just ends after power management complete.

OK - I've reset SMC - doesn't work and what's worse is the fan is now
running full tilt...

Script still ends at same place.

Looks like trouble...

When booting off the OSX DVD, does everything look okay? You can
always go for an over-the-top installation, and re-import users and
apps etc from the TM backup using the Migration Assistant that pops up
at the end of installation.

How did you go about doing the full restore from TM, by the way? I've
never done that, only pulled files or users from them.

AIUI there's an option in the installer. If it detects a TM backup
attached it lets you choose which snapshot to restore from (or not).

Boots from the install disk fine. Looks like I'll just have to build it
from scratch and reinstall everything. I've now run Diskwarrior and that
hasn't helped. I think it's just some kind of boot file missing as the
system seems bootable.

Shouldn't have trusted Time Machine - think I'll go back to SuperDuper.

The full restore is done from the install DVD - you just select the TM
snapshot you want and then it erases the disk (or partition) and copies
everything across. This worked fine and took about 2 hours I think.

The only other thing i can try is installing a new system in the other
partition and seeing is i can repair it from there.
