A quality crash I was merrily typing away into an SSH session on my netbook running Ubuntu Netbook Remix, when all of a sudden the screen went black, but with the backlight still on. So I tried the usual procedure: Ctrl-Alt-F1 to see if I could get a terminal up. That worked. So I tried Ctrl-Alt-F7 to see if I could force th... 5 Jul 2010 15:33
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS: background to-tops over all running applications! Today the update manager on my netbook (Dell Mini 9) offered to upgrade me to 10.04 LTS - prior to that I was running a 10.04 beta which I'd upgraded from Hardy Heron (which is what it shipped with) - and I foolishly accepted its offer. So it's installed. It looks extremely pretty. But every time I launch an ... 3 Jul 2010 05:51

xte - incorrect keymap ? I've been happily using Ben Bacarisse's routine for entering common text strings like email addresses for some time on an old Dell DT running Centos 5.5. I've now also got 64bit Centos 5.5 on a Dell Vostro running the identical routine. However on the laptop an @ is replaced with a q The routine enter... 24 Jun 2010 06:22
USB problem I've made a minimum install of debian squeeze (un-select both 'desktop' and 'standard') then built it up with apt-get to pull in X, openbox, rox-filer and associated files. The system works very well in every respect except usb. hal & pmount are installed, and so is usb-utils. No usb devices are recognised at all... 24 Jun 2010 17:30
x11 (perl/Tk) help need please I'm trying to port properly to ubuntu an XP-based perl/Tk routine. Among other things, this locates a second monitor and creates a full-screen window within it. The idea eventually is to have a projection screen and a separate control monitor. The existing XP code is nasty enough - it simply scans the coordina... 21 Jun 2010 12:28 |
