From: "Robbin Meng [MSFT]" on 19 Jan 2010 22:58 Hello John, Thanks for your post and others' suggestions. As complement, here are some more steps I quoted from other similar KB961143 installation cases which should help: 1. antivirus, antispyware, and third-party firewall programs Please temporarily disable any antivirus, antispyware, and third-party firewall programs and try to install the update again. 2. This issue may occur The Application Pool was not configured correctly. Please open IIS console and then Companyweb node under Web Sites, check if the Home Diectory tab of companyweb to see if it is using a different AppPool other than DefaultAppPool. If so, change it to use the DefaultAppPool. Then run IISReset command to restart IIS. After that, please try to install the udpate again. 3. If the issue persists, please try to modify the following registry keys. Note, please backup the Lsa key before you do any modification. - Created the reg dword DisableLoopbackCheck under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa and gave it a value of 1. - Rebooted the server - Steps taken from KB 896861 <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861> Hope this helps. From: John on 20 Jan 2010 05:19 Sharepoint is still installed as far as I can see. Companyweb was giving problem in that it asked for login and failed after three tries. Exactly the problem, update KB961143 is meant to address. However I tried several things and companyweb is accessible since. I presume after I created DisableLoopbackCheck key under lsa in registry. Both 'SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration' and 'SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard' fail.
