Bear bottoms solution is "Just reformat the hard drive and reinstall
Windows. Simple. I do it all the time."

This is an easier way.

While it's been a while since I've tried it, I found the F-Secure
scanner to be much, much slower than the Avira offering. JME. YMMV.

Regardless, the point remains: a Linux Live CD running from "outside"
the Windows OS should be a part of any malware cleaning toolset.

The BitDefender rescue CD is also a goodie.

You can't repair damages made to system files....

Bullshit.

Did you bother to read that article? It says "if a Windows system file
is infected the computer may not restart anymore".

Oh dear!................What next?

Why yes of course ... ... restore the most recent image of your Windows
partition. Job done. Takes about 5 minutes.

You do take backup images regularly. Right?

NB: Trying to disinfect an operating system like Windows is often a
fools game, but there are plenty of fools about. It's much better to run
a b/u image regime and restore when you become suspicious of
malware...no disinfection necessary.
