From: "Brandy Nee [MSFT]" on 29 Jun 2006 05:57 Hello Neil, Thank you for posting back. Sorry to keep you waiting since I was ill yesterday. I need to confirm with you if you have contacted our PSS to download hotfix915331? I understand that you cannot run the command to stop the VSS service. In this case, please go to the Service console (services.msc), right click "Volume Shadow Copy Service" and select stop. Can you stop the VSS in this method? If no, what is the exact error message you encounter? Please type the full content of the error message word by word to the Newsgroup. if you can stop VSS, please continue performing the suggestions in my previous reply to register those .dll files. I reviewed the whole thread, in your previous reply, you mentioned "But I'm not actually trying to back up SQL Server, which is why I suggested uninstalling it". Do you mean you have SQL install? If you have SQL Server, please make sure the system account is a member of the SQL Administrators group. Also, since you have SBS 2K3 SP1 installed, please reinstall COM+ to see how the issue goes: 1. Backup and then delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\COM3 2. Boot to Recovery console and rename clbcatq.dll to ~clbcatq.dll. Be sure to use the tilde. 3. Boot to normal mode and in Control Panel, open the Add or Remove Programs tool, and then open the Add/Remove Windows Components tool. Do not make any changes, just click "Next". This reinstalls COM+. Please take your time to perform the steps. If you have any further updates, please feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to your reply! From: "Brandy Nee [MSFT]" on 3 Jul 2006 05:35 Hello Neil, Thank you for posting back! The error code 0x80040154 translates to REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG. It appears some DLLs are not properly registered. Let's do these troubleshooting steps: NOTE: Some of the steps below go over steps we have already done, however, it is important to do them all. 1. Copy and paste the text between but not including the lines into a .reg text file and then import it into the registry. Be wary of the lines wrapping to the next line. ------------------------------------------- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{FAF53CC4-BD73-4E36-83F1-2B23F46E513E}] @="VssEvent" "AppID"="{FAF53CC4-BD73-4E36-83F1-2B23F46E513E}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{FAF53CC4-BD73-4E36-83F1-2B23F46E513E}\InprocServer 32] @="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\ES.DLL" "ThreadingModel"="Both" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{FAF53CC4-BD73-4E36-83F1-2B23F46E513E}\ProgID] @="VssEvent.1" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{FAF53CC4-BD73-4E36-83F1-2B23F46E513E}\VersionIndep endentProgID] @="VssEvent" ------------------------------------------- 2. Reboot the server. 3. Register es.dll cd %windir%\system32 regsvr32.exe es.dll If the issue persists, please export the following regsitry key, rename the file to .txt and send it to me: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EventSystem\{26c409cc-ae86-11d1-b616-0 0805fc79216}\EventClasses\{FAF53CC4-BD73-4E36-83F1-2B23F46E513E}-{00000000-0 000-0000-0000-000000000000}-{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} I greatly appreciate your time and continuous working with us.
