Apple user interface guideline number 1: ensure that the system is
intuitive to use by providing pointless short cuts attached to
completely arbitrary combinations of key and mouse clicks.

It always takes me about five tries to get the "make alias" key combo
right. The rest I'm pretty good with.

It is pretty common for the option key to change the contents of menus.
