I've run VMware Server 1.x for quite some time with no issues during
several versions of openSUSE as host.

I'm trying Sun VirtualBox now, it's quite good I must say.

I tried the ose version briefly but there was a USB issue, which was
easy enough to overcome by switching to Sun's version.
I found instructions to do it in the ose but that can wait for now.

But, there's one problem or lack of knowledge on my side:

With VMware I am able to log out from the host machine and the virtual
machines keep running.

In VBox this does not seem to work.
If I log out the VBox wants to shutdown or hibernate or what not the
virtual things.

Is there a way I can leave them running while being logged out from the
host?

I thought ALL programs stop once you log out? Maybe something under YAST --

Server functions stay running, like LAMP server.
And VMware Server.

Just enable/disable there.

Expert settings radio button. There are about 7 or 8 to choose from and you
can mix and match.

As the name of that module says: It enables and disables stuff in
different runlevels.
Those "mix and match" buttons you speak about are settings "on" or "off"
in different runlevels.
