From: Brooster on 24 Aug 2006 12:27 Having some issues with users and terminal services running on 2K3 R2 x64 Enterprise Edition. After users have been using terminal services, and either uses it again, or logs into their desktop (Windows XP 32 bit), their profile is messed up. 1) All mail preferences for Outlook (Exchange) are reset to defaults, ie mail profile is missing, custom views, signatures, etc. On workstation autocomplete in Outlook (Exchange) is no longer working (oboviously doesn't have the data on the ts server, as it is stored in Local Settings. All the files are there, and last modified of the last time the user was on that system. 2) Desktop icons, layout is different... All icons are there, but arranged different 3) Data and time are missing from the taskbar. Recently accessed applications in start menu are reset 4) All network printers are gone This isn't affecting all users, only some, and not all the time. My attempts to replicate the problem is failing. Users it is affecting swear that they are logging off properly. I had the GPO enabled to delete cached copy of roaming profiles on logoff on the TS and have disabled to see if that will make a difference. From the event log, on the ts, a userenv entry about being unable to unload profile, and one a few seconds later when it does unload. Nothing on the workstations logged to the application event.

From: Brooster on 24 Aug 2006 22:45 Hi Vincent, All clients are running XP Sp2, so the XP hotfix would be included. Further the profiles have been existing for awhile, and it is not a new profile. The 2003 hotfix doesn't seem directly relevant to the issue that I am having. Users do not have admin access to the machine, they also do not have any printers mapped on the server. The userenv error is just the profile couldn't be unloaded as it was still in use.
From: Vincent Xu [MSFT] on 25 Aug 2006 03:49 Hi Brooster, If so, please check if you are using mandatory user profile. A mandatory user profile is a special type of pre-configured roaming user profile that administrators can use to specify settings for users. With mandatory user profiles, a user can modify his or her desktop, but the changes are not saved when the user logs off. Check the roaming profile folder, if there is a hidden file ntuser.man This file has two name. If it is ntuser.dat, it is normal roaming profile. If it is ntuser.man, it is mandatory profile. Thanks. From: Brooster on 25 Aug 2006 19:02 These are normal roaming profiles, and not manditory profiles...
