True, but it would be easier to batch-modify copies, if I could find the
originals together. I would be happy, if I could specify folders inside
of iPhoto to keep copies of originals for use outside of iPhoto. That is
what I have done extracurricularly. In the instance of the geneology
site, the few originals I uploaded were accepted and displayed.

If I understand you correctly, I would have on the desktop a bunch of
aliases (or copies of the originals?), and they could be titled as I
wish and then uploaded, right?

batch modify is trivial in lightroom or aperture. i'm not sure about
iphoto.

you will have a copy of the image and you can do whatever you want with
it.
