Any ideas about what triggers it?

I tested it on the Daily Mail website. As far as I can tell, the
triggers for Reader mode are:

Cheryl Cole
Migrants
pictures of famous women looking tired/blotchy/fat/thin

It's pretty clever, but Apple don't really seem to have spilled any
beans on how it works.

So it works on every page of the Daily Mail, then?

What is the Reader icon? I see the View menu has an Enter Reader (?!?!)
menu item, but don't see any icon on the page.

It appears in the address bar to the left of where the [RSS] icon is,
assuming there's an RSS feed.

As an example:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/politics/10271228.stm

shows (once loaded) as

[BBC] http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/politics/10271228.stm [Reader]

So it does. I was suffering from small boy "Where are my socks?"
syndrome, couldn't see what was right in front of my face.
