From: Geoff Schaller on 30 Jan 2010 19:45 Willie. One of the very tiny few. ...and I'll bet you that million dollars he blew it all on a car and a trip to Vegas <g>. Interestingly though, I asked my 20+ aged daughters and their boy friends what they thought of the iPad and their response was, well, surprising. They shrugged their shoulders and asked what the big deal was. Would they consider buying one? The answer was an immediate no. I asked about their mates (who seem to have all discussed it in detail by now) and my youngest daughter gave me this piece of wisdom. By the time it is all said and done, the gadget will cost them $1000 and a hefty phone contract. Well they already have a hefty phone contract and can't afford two. And as they cannot give up their current phone (they seem to be surgically attached) they won't be giving it up for an iPad. Now my sample space is pretty small but this crowd was among the first to grab iphones. The girls in particular were quite negative about its size and the boys could not seeing being useful as a games console (they already have PC, Xbox, Wii, etc). Go figure its future... Geoff, My wife wanted one of those little 10" netbooks for Christmas. By the time I looked into upgrading the OS, adding a DVD drive so I could install software and burn CDs (something she does frequently to make disks for ballet), it was cheaper to get her a gateway. Paid about 450 for it and it came with 4 gig ram, w7x64 home premium, dvd-rw, and a 15.6 screen. She was thrilled. The kids got her a case for it <g>. I am still running the same Gateway machine that you saw me with the last time we met in Georgia. It is 4 years old and has never given me any problems. Although a SSD would be a nice addition.
