Hi

This is weird.

Go down to runlevel 3 ( init 3 ) and reinstall the rpm ( rpm -e
RPMNAME.rpm to delete it. rpm -ihv RPMNAME.rpm to install it again ) ..
does that work?

If all fails, you could try to upgrade to openSuSE 10.3 RC1 ( i've been
using it for couple of days and it seams to be stable )

I don't think you'll bee needing ZEN, feel free to disable it.
You can install RPM's with the command "rpm -ihv RPMNAME.rpm" ( 'man rpm'
and read about the various parameters for the command )

Thanks, yes I will try that in the morning and post my results. I'll
keep more careful time as well. I did notice that there is an
extraordinary delay at the point the software installer says "99%
complete" -- it sits there for a very long time and the CPU is
throttled to max frequency, and 100% duty cycle.

I will try the runlevel 3 idea to see how that behaves.

Thanks,
Randy

The problem is Zmd. It has been dropped in 10.3 (which will be out next
week).

Here's how you can remove it and your problem is gone:

no, you compare windows with a linux machine
don't do that !

easy installing software:
first you don't want to download rpm by hand.
add Repositories & then you can search over yast itself ;-)
http://en.opensuse.org/Package_Repositories

yast - software - installation source --> give url like
http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.2/repo/oss/

I have for openSUSE 10.2 @ a mirror in belgium:
