On it's way... and indeed, VLC makes a glitchy pigs ear of it. Movist, on the other hand, plays it smooth as silk. Curious, since both tell me they're using ffdshow to display. This is, however, on an i5 with 4850 graphics... So lets step down a notch. On a Core2 Mini 2GHz with 9400 graphics on a 1080HD screen (this is the Mini that runs my telly), with Movist the picture is smooth but CPU is pegged at 200% and the sound is gappy. VLC is more of a slideshow. So to me this seems more of a specific codec fail than anything due to the Mac - if there's only a decent codec for Windows, then you're stuck with using Windows. Shrug. You gets what you buys. There do seem to be an awful lot of mentions on the Web along the lines of "How do I play these?" "How do I edit these?" and quite a lot of "How do I convert these to something useful?"... Cheers - Jaimie -- "No, no, you're not thinking, you're just being logical." - Niels Bohr

What they've usually had is more of it and better of it than the dark side competition - but also *different*. And what's always proven true is that the areas in which Macs beat the dark side, those who like the dark side ignore; and those areas in which the dark side beat the Mac, those who like the dark side use as a stick to beat Macs with. Perhaps try something like VLC? I've got an oldish (C2D) Mac Mini that plays most things fine. Rob
