From: Jens on 26 Jan 2009 16:13 No, it's not a dual core, it is an AMD64 Athlon 3000+ on socket 754 with an Gigabyte Mainboard (I tried to update it, but it failed, I'm still locking for any reasons) with just 1,5GB and an ATI 9600 card. Yes they are 64Bit compatible, otherwise I think I couldn't install them (at least Win simulates a 32bit environment, which I guess is slower). But I know Firefox and Avast are compatible and it need a lot of time to start them. But Windows features like Windowsupdate take even more time. From: Bobby Johnson on 26 Jan 2009 16:42 Unfortunately Win 7 x64 needs a lot of resources and a single core CPU kinda hamstrings the OS. When I first tried Win XP x64 I had the same CPU as you and I quickly discovered I would get much better performance with a dual core. Vista and Win 7 need a bit more horsepower thna even XP x64. What would be your prospects be of upgrading your system with a new MB, x3 or x4 CPU, and about 4GB of RAM? From: Kue2 on 26 Jan 2009 17:07 Jens try what I did it may help. Go to your bios & disable all power savings setting. If you have an AMD, disable Cool & Quiet too. When I did this I noticed a big increase in Win7. From: Jens on 26 Jan 2009 17:09 Hm.. exactly that is I guessed. I'm not sure if I should even more upgrade (this pc got an "upgrade" with parts of another newer pc which were upgraded). Actually it is only a testing system, on which only some office programms run. So I prefer the x32 version for this pc, which works fine. It seems that my laptop is better for 64bit with a Dual Core.
