From: Jens on 26 Jan 2009 10:05 Hello list, maybe someone asked this already, but my Win 7 feels (and is) much slower than the 32 Bit version. May it be that my system is too old (AMD Athlon 3000+), but is has the 64Bit feature, so it should work. Every programm (64bit and 32bit) that I use seems to be slower than normal. I have no idea why. By the way: Terratec Cinergy T and the software Home Cinema work fine on 32Bit, but not on 64Bit (the search for channels does not start) Thanks for help, Jens
From: Bobby Johnson on 26 Jan 2009 10:18 Do you mean a dual core AMD64 Athlon 3000+? If so, is it a socket 754, socket 939, or socket AM2? How much memory do you have installed? As for the 2 program, have you checked the respective web sites to find out if they are 64-bit compatible? If the installer of the program is 16-bit, then it won't install in any of the Windows x64. To me Win 7 x64 is faster and more responsive that Vista x64, but I also have 8GB DDR2 RAM, and a Phenom x4 9750. From: Kue2 on 26 Jan 2009 11:31 Hi Jens!! Hi Bobby!! I am running a AMD 64 Athlon 3200 socket 754. I have 3 GB memory(the Max for this mb K8V SE Deluxe) I too fine that Vista run faster on same machine Using duel boot menu. (Vista64 & win7 64) Win7 beta build 7000 seems to run quite a bit slower than Vista 64. Just my 2 cents.... From: Carlos on 26 Jan 2009 11:52 Bobby, I am trying to correlate the few results I have been able to get hold of Win 7 performance so far. It seems as if Win 7 were faster on newer systems and slower on older systems. One shot it the dark: Win 7 uses the 2D acceleration of the graphic cards (Vista doesn't) Newer PC's have newer cards that have better 2D performance. Could it be the attempt to use that 2D capabilities in older machines make them slow down? My rig is quite similar to yours: 8 gigs DDR2 800 RAM and Phenom x4 9650 (a tad slower than yours). Carlos, You may have hit on a vary good aspect of the difference in speed. I know Win 7 32-bit runs faster on my Dell 1501 notebook than Win XP that came on it. Never tried Vista on it.
