From: Mark Sutheard on 13 Oct 2009 13:01 I am trying to setup a wireless access point for use by one laptop which can't be wired to the network because of its location. We have a Linksys WAP54G access point, and I have followed a Microsoft Technet article "Configure Wireless Networking on Windows Small Business Server 2003". We have SP1 applied to the server, and the laptop is XP Pro SP3. I first set up the connection about 2 weeks ago, and the laptop was able to connect fine the first day. The second day, the connection was broken, and I can't re-establish it. I have looked at my wireless connection settings on the laptop, and they don't match what is specified in group policy for wireless connections, and when I try to change them, I receive the message "At least one of your changes was not applied successfully to the wireless configuration". I have looked at my group policy, and it should be applied to the SBScomputers and to the WirelessClients group, but something just isn't working right. My wireless logs don't show any activity other than the first day when the connection worked. My access point is set to use RADIUS as the security method. Any ideas where I should start to troubleshoot? Thanks. -- Mark Sutheard Greene and Bradford, Inc. Springfield, IL
From: AllenM on 13 Oct 2009 13:27 Here's what I do using the same Linksys wireless router. We all want to make it simple when we have clients and or customers come visit our offices for business who require internet access for one reason or another. For security purposes we do not want them on our network if we can avoid that. Also it is way to much truoble to having to hardwire them and configure their laptops in our network just so they can have intenet access. So what I did becuase I have a 5-port switch connected to my DSL line and I have a group of 5 static IP's from my ISP providor I attached the wireless to the external for internet access. This way I don't have to worry about security or them calling me a day or so later complaining I screwed up their network settings and now they cannot login at work or at home. From: Mark Sutheard on 14 Oct 2009 13:52 Thanks Merv. That got things working! I had to make a small change in my AC setup for RADIUS with WAP, and then found out I had misspelled the server name in the IEEE 802.1 certificate settings, so I couldn't authenticate. -- Mark Sutheard Greene and Bradford, Inc.
