From: John Barnes on 20 Mar 2007 11:24 If you can boot with the RAID array disconnected, you should be able to correct an enumeration problem in the registry, if that is the problem. It would not need to be hot swappable as you could delete the registry entry and then reboot and let it re enumerate. Once you are in safe mode try to sort out your drive letters. I have learned that if you install windows on a sata drive on a system that has IDE drives, it will try to make drive 0 your boot drive. To get around this I unplug all but the drive I want to be the boot and system drive during installs or repairs. Then replug them after the install or repair. If one of your IDE drive was made active during the repair or install, that will remain a problem. Paul
From: David Craig on 20 Mar 2007 16:17 I filed a bug on this problem during the beta of SP2 or maybe R2. They closed it and I followed up with more information, but nothing happened. I think most enterprise use of Server involves only one type of drive. There might be fibre channel, SCSI, or even SATA but not mixed. That seems to be the target and it isn't going to change. From: klaus on 24 Mar 2007 08:25 Hi, Thanks for your comments so far. I have repaired the x64 system using the installation CD once again. So I am back to service pack 1 and I do not know what to do. Here is my configuration: Motherboard: Gigabyte K8VNXP In BIOS setup the two USB Controller are enabled. On-board ATA/RAID is enabled. GigaRAID function is RAID (alternative would be ATA). Boot up sequence is SCSI prior to ATA/RAID. In power management ACPI suspend type is set to S1(POS) = "power on suspend under ACPI os" I am using 2 SCSI drives attached to Adaptec AHA 2940U2W - Ultra2 SCSI Controller. On the first SCSI drive I have installed XP Prof 32 bit. Boot letter "C:" On the second SCSI drive is the X64 XP Prof os. Boot letter "D:" Three other SCSI devices (CD-ROM, CD Writer, Tape drive) are attached to this controller. Furthermore, I am using the on-board ITE IT8212 ATA RAID Controller with 3 IDE drives. Driver letter "V:" I am using a PS/2 keyboard and a USB mouse. I used to work with this configuration for months. All updates for the X64 system are successfully installed via automatic updates. SP2 is the first update, which does not work. After installing sp2 the system does not boot anymore. Using safe mode, I could see that the system crashes after loading acpitabl.dat which does not exist. How to proceed? Many thanks for your help! Klaus: Try setting the power management ACPI suspend type as S1 & S3 instead of S1 (pos). Have a great day. -- Dennis Pack XP x64, Vista Enterprise x64 Office2007 "klaus" <klaus(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:D728A009-8F03-44B9-BA31-D734E1A78FDD(a)microsoft.com... > Hi, > > Thanks for your comments so far.
