Jesus. No wonder I feel waves of uncontrollable violence rising in me
whenever I speak to them.

Blimey. Have a look at:

http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/onetoone/

Then 'View Sessions'. You can hardly be expected to leap sessions - it'd
be a waste of time. You have to understand basic stuff like security,
file management and backing up. I'd guess and say you came across like a
complete prat who grunted something along the lines of 'DVD. Make. Now.'

Just guessing mind ;-)

It's a bloke in the shop who's in need of sacking that's the problem.

"There's no better way to get set up, get trained and get going on your
new Mac than with a One to One membership at the Apple Retail Store. The
most knowledgeable Mac people in the world will transfer your files from
your old computer, teach you all the basics in face-to-face training
sessions, and guide you through more advanced projects. So whether
you're brand-new to a Mac, a seasoned pro, or somewhere in between, One
to One will help take your skills to the next level."

If not, contact whatever passes for trading standards these days.

You're a victim of fraud, it seems to me.
