Sony ESI (service center site) doesn't have any tool for extraction.

I tell ya, on the one hand Sony lappies are very good. On the other hand, some of the decisions they make are really frustrating. Wrt ISOBuster, the free portions are definitely nagware. While using it over the space of one hour, six popups informed me they needed a roof over their collective head. No problem there, I was feeling a tad sheepish about using it anyway...especially after the "roof over the head" comment. But, alas, ISOBuster's non-paid version wasn't able to extract the img's either. In a nutshell: I'm still looking for something to bust open the *.img's on the Sony Recovery CDs. tia, -Craig
