Maybe, you don't need that. Usually, the files Sony.img, Sony.i01,... just carry the OS installation files. They get extracted into an i386 directory somewhere. (Either c:\i386 or inside the Windows directory or on another - eventually even hidden - partition.) You can use that folder as source for an (extracted) installation CD or DVD. All other programs and utilities provided by Sony are usually inside *.pac files, which can be extracted with KCap.exe. You either have this one already on your disk, maybe here: Program Files\Sony\VAIO Application Recovery Utility\bin or you can download it from here: www.myplc.com/sony/sony_apps.htm That site also has some usage instructions for the tool. As I don't have any Sony computer on hand, I can't check anything of the above. Just try and find out... ;-) BeAr -- =========================================================================== = What do you mean with: "Perfection is always an illusion"? = ===============================================================--(Oops!)===

A console application is included that let you dynamically mount and unmount files....... FileDisk can also use CD-images. Certainly works for me with my .img files - whether it will work with the Sony "flavour" is try-and-see. -- rich

No .pac's, no KCap... > I appreciate the help everyone, thanks. For the record, Sony .img files are of a special flavor resistant to extraction. On top of that, Sony support (so far) won't budge. But hell, I'll "stay in touch" w/them. Maybe they'll want to get rid of me so badly... -Craig
