I had been thinking about just such a thing. I happen to know
the reception is fine when standing on my roof. I live in a bit
of a dip as far as my local ( < 1mile) mast is concerned, however
I recently turned on cell boadcast and discovered that the phone
is actually using a mast over 12 miles way. Lots of trees around my
house as well.

Since the police state will lock me up if I buy a repeater, are
you able to explain further about the other passive option.

My ISP is AAISP and I am quite pleased with them given my experience
with Demon, Chess and Tiscali. They do however have a 2G a month
weekday cap. But another poster has indicated that bandwidth consumption
should not be an issue.

Thanks.

No, the police state seems to lock people up for not having a mobile
phone (seems it's a sign that you're a terrorist)

It is the properly administered legal system that will lock you up for
using equipment that could impair telecomms networks.

I've very worried about how we are drifting into a surveillance
society and ploice state, and your comment undermines the objections.

Surely, it's an allowance, not a cap that you refer to? If you exceed
the threshhold, you don't lose internet as you can buy more allowance.

Yes. You are right; they just hit me for a few more pounds.
