Crash thing: hasn't happened to me for quite a while but has happened a couple of times. Volume control appearing of its own accord has also happened a few times. -- flavio matani guitar tuition http://www.flaviomatani.co.uk http://fflavio.com

Well, it's not unheard of. There have been some buggy releases of the iPhone OS where this sort of thing has happened more than one would like. The current release seems pretty stable for me though. On my BlackBerry I did have some trouble working out what the physical buttons were supposed to do (not really helped by the fact that they are all completely configurable). I _think_ that happens when one of the Apple apps crashes - they run with a much higher priv, so when they go for one they take out the whole device. I see it from time-to-time with iTunes - certain podcasts seem to make it reboot. Never had it happen on the SMS app though. OK, thanks all. I did google but there was a lot of spontaneous reboot stuff about all kinds of other phones as well. So this is a little bit normal then. I wonder if that newsreader app is doing it; newstap lite. -- bellajonez at yahoo dot co dot uk

I couldn't say for certain but I'd find it unlikely. In my experience when a third-party app crashes it just takes you back to the icon screen. Besides, weren't you in the SMS app? In which case NewsTap couldn't be running. Jim -- http://www.ursaMinorBeta.co.uk http://twitter.com/GreyAreaUK "Get over here. Now.
