For a Mac user I would have thought the dominant factor would be the compatibility between the iPhone and the Mac. Because I only own a single computer and it is an iMac, and I never run Windows on it, then if I were in the market for a smartphone I would probably not bother considering anything other than an iPhone. Yes there some great smartphones out there, and some of them may well be better than an iPhone in some ways, but given that there are plenty of satisfied iPhone users who wouldn't be seen dead using a Mac (I know some of them), I think once you take into account the compatibility issue it is a no-brainer (unless there are issues related to the network operators available where you intend to use the iPhone). Talking death and iPhones, I understand that the young factory slaves in China where they are made, are jumping off stairs and building in suicide acts because of the the cruel, demeaning soul-destroying nature of their work and conditions. I don't know if any less folk die making Blackberrys? -- dorayme

This whole thing has been in the news for quite some time now. For example, see: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/asia_pacific/10151626.stm There were 9 suicides at the plant this year, and it employs some 420,000 people. If you were to take the suicide rate among 420,000 workers anywhere else in the world, what sort of suicide rate would you come up with? I'm not saying it is a good thing, but at the same time 9 deaths out of a company employing 420,000 people isn't necessarily worse than most. We had three suicides during one year when I was at university, and that would make our suicide rate several times that of this plant, just because our university population was quite a bit smaller. -- Please note this e-mail address is a pit of spam due to e-mail address harvesters on Usenet. True, but we would need to account for that "...the company has admitted it stopped a further 30 people trying to throw themselves off high buildings in a three-week period earlier this year."
