I was exactly the same. Eventually taught myself to write programs in
Sinclair Basic and eventually managed a simple database and even simpler
spreadsheet for my employer - printed out on a ZX81 thermal printer. (I
found some blank paper the other day that once had the code printed on
it!)

Bought my son that - of course I could never understand what he saw in
it - tried it many, many timers to see if I could find out!

I *did play with CP/M on the Amstrad but went back to more ambitious

Oh yes. Made Basic loaders for programs which configured keys and screen
parameters (for Protext on ROM) and included a startup picture (for
Baintstorm). Great fun, if weenie.

Now I've reached that venerable age of 70 (go on, venerate me) at which
I mostly just want my applications to do stuff. Which they do.

YEEE-HARRRRR!

As far as I know I'm the only one, so yes. What year was that? 2009?
