You can right-click on the headers in List view and add extra columns
such as "Kind". And then sort by them.

If you sorted by date then, isn't this what the poster wanted?

I think the OP wanted to be able to have folders at the top, then files
underneath, rather than a mix that's governed purely by the name.

How on earth did you discover this? Do the Save dialog boxes have any
other tricks up their sleeves?
