It would just be for myself at home and access from maybe two other machines from time to time, but mainly from the same desktop. Something really small would do, as long as it allows for good filtering. Leafnode sounds good but I'm trying to look into a few more alternatives before committing. It needs to do secure news and authorization, because most ISP's here have stopped offering usenet access now. I'm using one of the few remaining free ones which is on a registration only basis. > FWIW, I recommend Leafnode, unless you have a large community and some > dedicated storage for INN. > > HTH Thanks for that. Hsu I'll look into nn & nnmaster, thanks. Basically, I'm just trying to achieve good filtering. Not been very happy with Pan or Knode (never used KDE much, or at least not the Kontact and Koffice components). I've looked into tin but it does not seem to do snews authorization. I may get away just with slrn, will see, but having a local server would probably be better as it would free me up to use different clients. There is a workaround for leafnode 1, which probably works for the current leafnode 2 beta: http://leafnode.sourceforge.net/doc_en/FAQ.html#nntps --keith -- kkeller-usenet(a)wombat.san-francisco.ca.us (try just my userid to email me) AOLSFAQ=http://www.therockgarden.ca/aolsfaq.txt see X- headers for PGP signature information |
