For an experienced cryptographer with mediocre software your example
wouldn't last 2 minutes. For an experienced cryptographer (an
old-timer, maybe) working with pad and pencil I would give it an hour,
max.

I think your speculation is optimistic, but please remember the context:
a good protocol, in a low-risk situation, and an easy to
remember/reconstruct pw. It wasn't intended to protect state secrets.

I'm into genealogy/biography/local history.

One of my ancestors published the first English-language newspaper
in Kansas, and so I read a book about printing in the "wild west."
That quote was in it.

Some of them I happened across in other books.
Some of them I encountered on-line.
And some of them I created myself.

The ones from Lang-Learn are blog posts.

An eclectic mix. Thanks for letting me know.
