The programs from Piriform which include CCleaner, Defraggler, and now
Speccy seem to install the Yahoo! toolbar regardless of whether the
option is unchecked. The last two times I have updated CCleaner the
Firefox Add-On popup appears informing me of the Yahoo! toolbar. Each
time I have told it to uninstall the add-on.

Has anyone else noticed this?

No,
I always download the Slim version (without the toolbar).

Go down to the bottom of the download page,
there you find a link called "builds page"
on that page you find the Slim install version and the portable version.

I just updated CC a couple of days ago and unchecked the toolbar option.
It didn't install it; I can't tell you why the option is ignoring your
intent.

Oops! After reading CoMa and Yrrah's posts, I remembered I always
install the slim build. (puts bag over head, goes to corner)
