From: ethos on 9 Nov 2009 13:37 Upgraded our SBS2003 from 1GB to 3GB of RAM. Page file for 1GB was set at custom 1.5G min and max. Understand that 1.5x RAM is a MS recommended so do I change the page file to 4.5GB min and max. However have read in posts that there is a 4GB max page file size? Appreciate any recommendations or comments. thanks Chris
From: Charlie Russel - MVP on 9 Nov 2009 14:30 I'd certainly increase it to 4GB, yes. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/blogs/russel "ethos" <cp(a)ethosnetworks.com> wrote in message news:3249be94-cb46-4b6a-a7b5-119d60657a97(a)12g2000pri.googlegroups.com... > Upgraded our SBS2003 from 1GB to 3GB of RAM. From: Duncan McC on 9 Nov 2009 15:35 Hmm... looking at my test server... Custom size I've set is: 4092Mb's (min & max) And further down... Minimum allowed: 16Mb's Recommended: 5182Mb's ??? Currently Allocated: 4092Mb's (of course!) What's with the recommended size? - if 4Gb is the max Windows will handle? and b) is 4092Mb's a 'correct' amount to set? -- Duncan. From: Larry Struckmeyer[SBS-MVP] on 9 Nov 2009 16:52 I am not sure there is only one correct answer to this. I usually fudge and put a 4 GB swap file on each of the partitons, and if there are more than two, remove it from the system partition. I know that there won't be a full system dump if there is a crash, but there are so many other ways to resolve blue screens now days that I don't worry about it all that much. - Larry Please post the resolution to your issue so others may benefit - Get Your SBS Health Check at www.sbsbpa.com > Hmm... looking at my test server... > > Custom size I've set is: 4092Mb's (min & max) > > And further down... > Minimum allowed: 16Mb's > Recommended: 5182Mb's ??? > Currently Allocated: 4092Mb's (of course!) > What's with the recommended size? - if 4Gb is the max Windows will > handle? > > and b) is 4092Mb's a 'correct' amount to set? > > In article <#ZTuiMXYKHA.220(a)TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl>, > Charlie(a)mvKILLALLSPAMMERSps.org says... > >> Subject: Re: sbs2003 page file size for 3GB RAM >> From: Charlie Russel - MVP <Charlie(a)mvKILLALLSPAMMERSps.org> >> Newsgroups: microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs >> I'd certainly increase it to 4GB, yes. >> >> -- >> Charlie. >> http://msmvps.com/blogs/russel >> "ethos" <cp(a)ethosnetworks.com> wrote in message >> news:3249be94-cb46-4b6a-a7b5-119d60657a97(a)12g2000pri.googlegroups.com >> ... >> >>> Upgraded our SBS2003 from 1GB to 3GB of RAM. if the hardware is PAE capable DEP (enabled by default on SBS03) will cause the system to switch to PAE mode (regardless of switches in boot.ini) and allow a single paging file over 4GB in size. Now we can start the debate about whether large paging files are of any value.
