Start button --> All Programs --> Accessories Locate the Command Prompt icon. Right-click the icon for command prompt and choose "run as administrator"... Should be self-explanatory from there. That's one of the things with Vista/7 - even as an administrator - you aren't really full administrator. ;-) -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
From: MowGreen on 24 Sep 2009 15:23 I didn't see this in your second post until now: > firewall (Comodo) The Comodo firewall is the cause of the 0x80070002 error. It has or is blocking content and/or preventing a CoCreate process from running. 0x80070002 ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND The authentication method is not supported. - CoCreateInstance(IBackgroundCopyManager) fails with E_ACCESSDENIED (0x80070005) in this condition You can either uninstall Comodo, or completely disable it and all of it's associated processes and enable the native Vista firewall, OR, Clean boot Vista, and then rerun CheckSUR once more. To clean boot Vista, see Step 1 here: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 BTW, did you check the logs that CheckSUR created after it's run ? From: Steve on 24 Sep 2009 16:50 I've tried using the resetting method for windows update but there are various files when punched into the command window, it says either there's an error or there's no such directory. As though i'm missing some of the files. From: Steve on 24 Sep 2009 17:40 I checked the logs and it says there aren't any problems. Check it with the firewall on and off. Did you clean boot Vista ? If not, there are processes and services associated with Comodo that are running which will cause the 0x80070002 error. Was the edition of CheckSUR that you downloaded just released on Sept. 22nd and for Vista x64 ? From past experience dealing with Comodo and Windows updating issues, I strongly suggest you get dump it. The native Vista firewall affords the same protection without the updating issues. That's your choice to make, not mine.
