On my Acer netbook whenever I plug the 3 dongle in I get a window
asking if I want to install the s/w. This morning it asked twice in
succession, AND then asked a 3rd time when I started browsing with IE.

Wouldn't that be more likely be the dongle?

ATM. here (Southampton) there is no web access, but I can still use
other internet services such as ssh.

Continuing problems today - Friday. Called CS from a Three shop and
they admitted that there were network problems to do with the various
upgrades.

BAD news - the latest s/w upgrades will severely affec Three
connectivity for those users using Vista or Win 7. See:
