Now I found the trap. The DVDs which I had been given, seem NOT to be finalized.
A DVD which I now played with to test I used in a strange path of the command
hierarchy, where there IS "finalize" mentioned. And THAT is NO "preference"
item, but something which works on the disk which is in the tray.

I tried that on a disc which I have made (some time ago - can't remember how) -
and now that DVD *CAN* be read with the PC. HA!

The fact that several DVDs from several independent sources could not be read in
the PC had confused me. All those guys (including me) did not finalize. What a
fun...
