This page has the best explanation of why there is confusion about where to put the unicows.dll http://www.bang.ro/dll/unicows.dll.htm unicows.dll download and information <snip long discussion> Important note: the Windows System folder can be different depending on operating system and the install path that was originally used when your Windows Operating system has been installed. The defaults for this folder are: <snip XP, NT, 2K> C:\Windows\System\ on Windows 9x and Windows ME -- Mike Easter

Most especially, I never snip any of my /own/ long discussions. I have about 3 different modes. Frequently I paste the snippages without any indication, or I put an ellipse ... if it helps to clarify something is missing that I snipped, or in this unusual circumstance, initially I was going to paste in the long discussion. Then I decided to not, and when I snipped out that part of the discussion, I replaced the excision with 'snip...' -- maybe to indicate that I considered not snipping it or something. > Have a happy holidays. No, I did put the files in the system directory but XP apps such as FF3 still won't install. I didn't get back to you because I intended trying things out on a different win 98SE machine I have first. In case some "tweak" on this machine is stopping things working. Thanks for the previous help. The checksums matched. :-) Regards, John.
