This has not managed to update itself since the 14th July, does anyone
know if there might be a problem?

I have tried removal and reinstall, which made no difference.

I re-tried AntiVir when I did a new XP a while back, & had the same
problem. I installed it & went back to Avast.

Did you disable any one of its component?

Anyway, you could always do a manual update!

Not that I am aware of.

How do you do that? I clicked on manual and it opened up an Explorer
window to choose a file.

1. Go http://www.avira.com/en/support/vdf_update.html
2. Download the VDF file
3. Use the manual update function to read that downloaded VDF file.
