Interarchy is on sale right now, if that helps.

sitecopy, curl, wget, and rsync are all free.

Or I go to Windows, point Internet Explorer to
ftp://host/directory then just drag and drop.

Also free (not quite, since having to use Windows
is a cost....)

That's one thing that puzzles me--how M$ can keep
trying to copy Apple and failing, yet on this
one feature, it's been the other way 'round for
over a decade.

Just luck, I guess.

For windows, there is a program called "Beyond Compare" that I like far
better than their built in FTP stuff. It is designed to compare files,
and you can even do a binary level comparison between files that are in
folders / directories. While it is intended for folder to folder
comparison, it also is a willing FTP client.

It does seem to crash from time to time, but the quality of the
information it provides is worth it, for the stuff I do with FTP on
Windows.

For the Mac, I still use the Freeware version of Fetch that was
distributed back in the mid-1990s. It does everything I need it to do for
what I do on the Mac.

OOPS ! I never really spent the time to try it. Mea Culpa.

I have tended to use comand line ftp from either the mac or from a
remote host to the mac. last time I used Fetch was when I was still at
8.6 (original MacOs).

BTW, with the command line ftp, you can still have "macbinary" files
sent to the mac and decoded by the receiving OS-X ftp server and built
properly in the mac file system. You need to add the proper file
extension to the file you are sending and it automatically gets treated
as macbinary. (I think you need to have .macbin or .bin extension added
to the filename).

Fetch still does all I want, with a simple straightforward UI :-) I've
tried other clients, and even liked them a lot (Anarchie - Interarchy's
predecessor - was a long time favourite, and I've dabbled with
CyberDuck), but Fetch is a reliable workhorse - and that's exactly what
I want from my FTP client.
