Also see the table at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence where
the USA enjoys the neighborhood of much less fortunate Latin American
countries at the top of the firearm homicide rates and is pretty at
the bottom at the non-firearm homicide rates. The conclusion is easily
deduced.

In my home its the extra training and practice that means they will
meet with two carefully aimed shots designed to stop them in their
tracks. Nightstand gun is unpictured, but for the people with sane
views on gun ownership, it is the .357 my father carried when he was
an undercover narcotics officer... (for the whackos from trashcanistan
or where ever, its the big scary boom boom gun that causes all the
world strife)

In a society where only the government is armed, you will find a
totalitarian government. The preservation of personal liberty requires
that the government be a little afraid of its people. As the founders of
the United States wrote in their Declaration of Independence,
governments derive "their just powers from the consent of the governed".
The "consent" of an unarmed citizenry is seldom in question.

On the other hand, a society in which everyone is armed tends toward
total anarchy.

The trick is to find a suitable "middle ground" in which enough
responsible citizens are armed to prevent excesses on the part of the
government, but the government is strong enough to control the
irresponsible and criminal elements present in any society.

We're still working on that here in the U.S.

What an ignorant and narrowminded point of view.
