I'm using Mail in Tiger 10.4.11. When I compose a
message, I type a hard carriage return around the
fifty column location (I estimate) to improve the
readability of my messages. I searched through the
Mail Preferences for such a setting, but I couldn't
find one. Does Mail provide this capability?

Thank you.

The thing is that people running their email clients full-screen end up
with lines 200 characters wide. OK, it's *their* problem, but still.

I've seen that in more than one newsreader, but I haven't see it in
Mail. I like the way Mail works. Whether composing or reading, I
adjust the window width to wrap lines at a readable length. I guess the
guy on the other end is supposed to be able to do the same.

Most web pages seem to work that way. I frequented one online
newsletter with very long lines that wouldn't wrap to fit my window. I
hated it.

Goodness. I see you do that in MT-NW as well?

Please don't! It doesn't improve readability for the rest of us.

It's best not to assume everyone else will like exactly what you like -
it's almost always not the case! ; )

Imagine for a moment that someone tried to prevent you from adjusting
the size of your email window to 50 characters in width to read emails,
but instead forced you to read 200-character lines. How would you like
that?

Don't insert hard line breaks in your messages. Allow others to view
them how they see fit!
