I recently re-installed Snow Leopard from scratch (printer problems as
ususal)

I tried to do a currency conversion (from USD to Sterling) in the
calculator.

It said that the coversion rates were last updated 30/11/2007! And what
is more, it won't update when I press the button.

According to Get Info, I have Calculator 4.5.2, created and modified 6
July 2009 07:17

"Help", alas, doesn't.

Can anyone suggest how to get it giong? Or perhaps tell me that it
won't?

John.

Not much help I'm afraid, but here, in OS10.4.11, Calculator 4.0.6
updates as it should; automatically, or from the Convert menu on
demand.

In the mean time, does the Convert widget work okay?

Aha!

But down the corridor, on Anne's MBP running OS10.5.8 and Calculator
4.2, currency conversion is a Late Parrot. Nothing doing. And the update
button is gone. All other conversions seem to work fine, just not the
currencies. So it looks as though there is a problem with more recent
Calculator versions.

Again, the widget converter is working fine.

Hm. Mine is stuck on 21/03/2008. Same OS and version as you, but this
install had an attack of Migration Assistant so the user accont is
about four years old.

Checking, calculator doesn't store currency in its own prefs file...

I wonder if it's related to the Dashboard "Convert" app? Ah - could
be, since mine currently says "Last updated "-2147483629/12/1969
-596:-31". It also says "Currency exchange provided by Yahoo Finance"
who I guess have broken the service.

Cheers - Jaimie

My Convert, in 10.5.8, was a clean install with the OS. It's broken. All
the other conversions seem to be okay.

The Dashboard widget works fine.

I'm typing this on an iG5 running 10.4.11, where Calculator/Convert
works absolutely fine, including currencies.
