Note that the iMacs are well due for an update, which will doubtless
happen the Tuesday after you buy yours. This may not bother you.

As the others have said, make it USB - lots cheaper, lots more choice,
no need for FW800 speeds.

Don't get one that stands upright - it'll fall over.
Don't get a Seagate, they have poor cooling.
And don't pop it on the desk next to the iMac, stick it hidden away
somewhere or it'll annoy you by buzzing and clicking to itself. 2Tb
drives tend to spin with a fair bit of vibration.

I have one that stands upright on the desk next to the iMac! It never
fell over and it doesn't buzz and click.
On the plus side, it isn't a seagate

Ooh - a quiet 2Tb? What's the drive?

Yay! One out of three isn't bad.

Plain FW beats USB2.

I've got FW, USB 2, and FW800 for my external discs.

Backing up over FW800 is just about tolerable.

The other two are too slow for my liking, given the amount of data
that's around these days.

Rowland.
