My dad has a 500gig USB MyBook, and it always falls off during large
data transfers. Windowses and Mac.

I use an Icybox, similar to this,

and it's never given me a moment's trouble with any HD inside. I keep
it wedged between a box and a wall, so no chance of falling over (its
only weakness).
