RAW vs. JPG: Fidelity vs. Convenience
I do not know of any camera ever made that has a satisfactory jpeg algorithm. The "good enough" mentality would favor a Yugo over a Mercedes. --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: news(a)netfront.net --- ... 31 Dec 2009 05:34
genuine fractals

Is there a model identfier for SD memory?
Does an SD memory card contain a unique identifier? Maybe it has something similar to the way a hard disk drive has a model number. I'm hoping I can insert my SD card into a memory reader on my PC and read off its exact model number. I want to get some more memory with a similar speed spec to a card I onc... 15 Jan 2010 13:50
Stolen D300 shots salvaged.
Even though I lost the D300 I had a redundant backup system, so I have been able to salvage most of the shots from my African trip. It is good to be home. The return trip via Amsterdam, with bad European and East coast weather was a nightmare. Each leg of the return was met with a delay. I had a 39 hour day from... 26 Dec 2009 23:06

Christmas Ornaments
Took some shots of ornaments on the tree. Nothing spectacular, just trying out a few different techniques... The first one is handheld at 1/8 second at high ISO, so is at best a soft image, probably some camera shake too. But, curious how it looks. The second was taken at ISO 100 using my 75 - 300mm lens zo... 22 Dec 2009 00:37
