What about vacuuming up some spray? Rather than shooting the spray into
the nozzle, direct the spray a few inches in front of the nozzle so that
(most of?) the propellant is dissipated before the spray enters the motor.

Fill a bowl with some vinegar. Cover it with plastic wrap and poke lots of
holes in it that are just big enough for them to enter. Gnats are
attracted to vinegar and will find their way in, then die.
