From: Andy Hewitt on 5 Jun 2010 09:14 I'm looking at getting a new keyboard. I don't really need the wireless anymore, and these Macally ones I got are pretty rubbish (the keys feel like they're in the wrong pace, and it keeps doing multiple presses). The ones I favour are: Apple Aloominum extended Matius USB 2.0 Cherry Initial What say the forum? -- Andy Hewitt <http://web.me.com/andrewhewitt1/>

I say it's too personal to take recommendations. The Apple is lovely if you think the current laptop keyboards (and the wireless alu) are lovely. The Mattius is lovely if you like deep, heavy clicky (if it's the one I think it is). The Cherry I don't know, but my favourite keyboards by them were light clicky ones. All very different, all beloved by many, but not often the same folks. Cheers - Jaimie -- None of this will matter in 20 billion years.

I agree it is a personal thing. As I grew to love the soft short travel of the 12" G4 Powerbook, the clickiness and dirt of the white things became less desirable. I have been using the full aluminium USB pretty hard for a while now, and everything else (except the beloved 12" G4) feels rather ordinary, and looks tacky. My G4 mini mail server died of heat exhaustion this morning, so I had to dust off the Bondi iMac's keyboard and puck mouse and an old DEC CRT monitor. Gaack! I'm so glad keyboards have moved on from there. (It turned out the mini's bottom air intake slots were totally clogged with dust, it is fine now, and the fan is far quieter. But what did you use to clean the intake slots - a vacuum cleaner or compressed air? Am I in the wrong thread? -- Chris |
