I must admit to not being a great fan of linux software distribution
methods, especially all the package managers, I have always had problems
with them.

Yes, that was one of the issues why I picked it. It seems not to bad for
a straight server, and if I didn't need java and I had the patience to
set up mail properly again, it would be a good system. I would imagine
that all these things are solvable if I had enough time to search the
web, fiddle, search the web again, but I really don't at the moment.
Sadly both of those aren't true, so it seems I would be better off
running OSX.

I find they work brilliantly until you run into a dependency conflict,
at which point you can end up in a situation which can be impossible to
resolve.

Current versions are about 400; old versions are a lot cheaper now -
ebay sees them around the 189 mark for unlimited clients.

Yes, this is one on ebay. They don't sell 10.5 server anymore do they?
