I always thought (with no basis in actual knowledge of course) that it
was executable, because CERN used to post Postscript maps to their
locations in their newsgroups, and I used to use Ghostscript to display
them. And as I was using an old, slow machine, I could watch the maps
being drawn in a leisurely way. Not at all like HTML.

Over two million of them, last I heard.

By executable, I mean that it has program states, loops, branching,
conditionals and so on. A slow enough machine will render HTML slowly
too.

I always assumed that Postscript had those features, but it was just an
assumption. Based, as I said, on no knowledge.
