You are right. I can use OWA, IE and logon with my Smart Card.

WAN side I use RPC over https with Outlook on my home desktop. Seamless. I
don't use the VPN really. On my lappy/netbook I use OWA because I only use
them infrequently and really only need to look at my inbox when I'm onsite.
