Both powers? Can the area and the perimeter of a triangle both be powers? For the triangle with sides 40,74,102 the perimeter is 216=6^3 and the area is 1224=35^2 - 1, almost a winner. ... 16 Jun 2010 05:36
Finite Sum Problem Hello! I have a problem regarding addition of a large number of parcels, as follows: Let a_1, a_2, a_3, ..., a_M be vectors of N components each. All components are real numbers between 0 and 1. We have a total of M*N numbers. I need to evaluate the sum of all possible products of the form: a_1(i_1)*a_2(i_... 17 Jun 2010 10:04
How Can ZFC/PA do much of Math - it Can't Even Prove PA is Consistent (EASY PROOF) Charlie-Boo <shymathguy(a)gmail.com> writes: Since PA can't prove something as simple as that, how could anyone be so stupid as to claim ZFC/PA is a good basis for all of our ordinary math? Who makes this claim? You're hallucinating. -- Aatu Koskensilta (aatu.koskensilta(a)uta.fi) "Wovon man nicht spr... 8 Jul 2010 03:43
How Can ZFC/PA do much of Math - it Can't Even Prove PA is Consistent (EASY PROOF) ZFC/PA is supposed to do all ordinary mathematics*. But it is easy to prove that PA is consistent (its axioms and rules preserve truth) yet (by Godel-2) PA can't do such a simple proof as that. Since PA can't prove something as simple as that, how could anyone be so stupid as to claim ZFC/PA is a good basis fo... 12 Jul 2010 17:24
? theoretically solved Hi: What does it mean by theoretically solving a problem? Does it mean that we formulate the problem well posed? Does it mean that we can write its solution implicitly in a form like y(x) = f(x) = integral (G*g), where G is the Green's function of the problem? But in the later case, how do we theoretically "sol... 16 Jun 2010 00:12

Special_Unitary_Group This is Artin's Algebra page 273. "The fact that the 3-sphere has a group structure is remarkable, because there is no way to make the 2-sphere into a group with a continuous law of composition. In fact, a famous theorem of topology asserts that the only spheres with continuous group laws are the 1-sphere, which i... 15 Jun 2010 20:57
