Is there not a firmware update for the MiFi? Maybe it would change
enough to make it work

my MBP is pretty lousy on normal network compared to the other machines,
or at least it is very position dependent.

I've been looking for that, and have managed to get what seems to be the
5.21 firmware from a Ukrainian company called MPXSys
(http://twitter.com/mpxsys) which I'm a bit suspicious of installing!

I've never had a problem with this MBP joining a network in the 3+ years
I've had it.

I bought my MiFi from them. Everything seems OK with them.

Cheers Ray - that's reassuring - I think I'll give it a try then.

Put my reluctance down to a natural suspicion of .exe files arriving
from unknown sources in eastern Europe :-)

Yes, I fully understand that.
