Now I have the firmware update, but can't find any way of applying it.

It is called 20418536_ MUU_ 2352_5.21_EMEAGeneric_pkg.exe

I can't see any way of applying it through the web interface, and
clearly as an .exe file I can't execute it on the MBP.

I'm starting to get a nasty feeling that it will need Windows.

I recently uninstalled Parallels/XP after realising I'd not had to fire
it up for about 18 months.

Any ideas?

Borrow a PC for 5 minutes. It wont affect the PC.

It's probably just my perception of things but isn't not having access
to Windows (or being able to run Windows apps via Crossover etc) sorta
like converting your car to LPG and not keeping the petrol tank? I
mean, there may be times where you can't find LPG then you have that
long walk home (even if it is only once every 18 months)?

Part of why I keep a Windows laptop round at Mums is because I needed
it to configure the Belkin WiFi thingy I had to get to put Dad's old
CRT iMac online (plus for the stuff he then can't do on the net
because of the limitations of OS .. and connecting to his iPod etc
etc).

In a similar way I like to keep OSX (and Linux) online for those 'it's
best to do' ... or 'can only do under .. ' moments.

There's also a difference between uninstalling something and not
installing it.

It's like having one over every size spanner in yer toolbox. You may
only need the 28mm one rarely but when you do. ;-)

Danny-

I've found some .exe updates were actually self-extracting zip files
that StuffIt Expander could unzip. Try changing the .exe to .zip, and
see if you can un-zip it.

I don't think you even need to bother changing the file suffix - just
drag the file on the expander application.
